Southern Match Journal welcomes considered pitches that help readers see football more clearly. We are interested in original explanations of formations, roles, phases of play and the ways teams create or defend space.

Pitches with a clear question

Propose one focused subject and explain what a reader will understand after reading your piece. Strong pitches define their terms, use examples carefully and make room for uncertainty where a pattern can have more than one explanation. We do not need a finished article with every proposal.

Useful boundaries

Keep the idea distinct from match predictions, unsupported performance claims and instructions that assume a reader is coaching a team. We welcome clear, original analysis and explanatory writing; please disclose any relevant commercial interest or relationship connected to the proposed subject.

How to send an idea

Send your proposal through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, a short outline and any relevant links or context you are able to share. A pitch is not a promise of publication, and we may suggest a different focus.
